If your skin’s feeling dull, textured, or showing signs of ageing, a chemical peel might just be the perfect solution. Chemical peels are a proven, non-surgical way to enhance your skin’s appearance, leaving it looking fresher, smoother, and glowing. Here’s everything you need to know about chemical peels, from benefits and types to preparation and aftercare.

What is a Chemical Peel?

A chemical peel is a skin treatment that uses carefully selected acids to exfoliate and remove the top layer of your skin, revealing healthier skin beneath.

It encourages cell turnover, stimulates collagen, and promotes fresh, radiant skin.

At Kate Hume Aesthetics, I use only the best brands in the industry – NeoStrata, BioRePeel, CliniCare, and Fillmed – ensuring top-quality results with a range of options suited to every skin type and concern.

What Can Chemical Peels Treat?

Chemical peels are versatile and can improve a wide range of skin concerns, including:

  • Fine lines and wrinkles – Helping soften fine lines by boosting skin renewal.

  • Sun damage and pigmentation – Peels work wonders for lifting pigmentation and giving you a brighter, more even skin tone.

  • Uneven skin texture – By resurfacing the skin, chemical peels can smooth out bumps and roughness. They can even improve acne scars!

  • Acne and congestion – Salicylic acid peels are especially good at reducing breakouts and clearing clogged pores.

Types of Peels Offered

At Kate Hume Aesthetics, I offer different peels to cater to every skin type and concern, using trusted brands to achieve the best results:

  • Glycolic Acid Peels – Great for hydration and boosting cell turnover, ideal for a subtle glow.

  • Mandelic Acid Peels – A gentler option for sensitive skin types, offering a mild exfoliation.

  • TCA and Salicylic Peels – A stronger option for those who want deeper exfoliation and rejuvenation, excellent for acne-prone and mature skin.

How Many Peels Do You Need?

To get the best results, a course of three peels is recommended, spaced 2-4 weeks apart depending on your skin type and the peel strength.

This approach allows for optimal rejuvenation, collagen boost, and lasting improvements.

The course of three peels starts at £180 – a great investment in long-term skin health!

Preparing for Your Peel

Before your appointment;

  • keep your skincare simple

  • avoid exfoliating products or retinoids a five days prior

  • limit sun exposure (winter months are perfect for a peel)

  • if you’re on prescription skincare, let me know so we can tailor the peel to suit your skin’s needs.

What to Expect After a Peel

Post-peel, your skin may feel slightly sensitive and require a bit of extra care. Stick to;

  • gentle, hydrating moisturisers,

  • avoid harsh products for about a week and

  • always wear SPF to protect your newly revealed skin.

For milder peels, expect a little flaking for 1-3 days, while medium peels may involve more visible peeling for up to a week. See below for an example of a medium strength peel skin shedding.
